POLISH CITIZENSHIP

 Polish citizenship can be obtained:

  • By granting of Polish citizenship
  • By recognizing the Polish citizen
  • By restoring the Polish citizenship

 

 GRANTING OF CITIZENSHIP

The President of the Republic of Poland can grant a foreigner, at his/her request, Polish citizenship. Polish citizenship to an alien is a minor at the request of his legal representatives. A foreigner acquires Polish citizenship on the date of the provisions of the Polish President to grant Polish citizenship.

 

THE RECOGNITION FOR THE POLISH CITIZEN

 As the Polish citizen shall be considered:

1.    a foreigner residing continuously in the territory of the Republic of Poland for at least 3 years on the basis of a settlement permit  or a residence permit for a long-term EU resident,  who has a stable and regular source of income in Poland and the legal title to the occupied dwelling;

2.    a foreigner residing continuously in Poland for at least 2 years on the basis of a settlement permit  or a residence permit for a long-term EU resident  , who has been married to a Polish citizen for at least three years or holds no citizenship;

3.    a foreigner residing continuously in the territory of the Republic of Poland for at least 2 years on the basis of settlement permit , which was obtained in connection with having a refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland;

4.    a minor foreigner, whose one of the parents is a Polish citizen residing in Poland on the basis of a settlement permit  or a residence permit for a long-term EU resident  and the other parent not holding Polish citizenship, has agreed to this recognition;

5.    a minor foreigner, whose at least one of the parents Polish citizenship has been restored, if a minor resides in the territory of Poland on the basis of a settlement permit  or a residence permit for a long-term EU resident  and the other parent who does not have Polish citizenship, has agreed to this recognition;

6.    a foreigner residing continuously and legally in the territory of the Republic of Poland for at least 10 years who meets all of the following conditions:

·           has a settlement permit -> or a residence permit for a long-term EU resident ,

·           and has a stable and regular source of income in Poland along with the legal title to the occupied dwelling;.

7.    a foreigner residing continuously in the territory of the Republic of Poland for at least 2 years on the basis of a settlement permit, which the person  has obtained in connection with Polish ancestry.

 

 THE RESTORATION OF POLISH CITIZENSHIP

With the restoration of Polish citizenship can benefit people, who in the past had Polish citizenship and lost it before January 1st, 1999 on the basis of the Law of January 20th, 1920 on the citizenship of the Polish State, the Act of January 8th, 1951 on Polish citizenship and the Act of February 15th, 1962 on Polish citizenship.
